Pasadena has one genuinely unusual road hazard, and it is a historic one: the Arroyo Seco Parkway was built in 1940 to 1940 standards and is still carrying modern traffic.

The Arroyo Seco Parkway
The 110 between Pasadena and downtown is the oldest freeway in the western United States and it shows. Entrance ramps are famously short — some require merging from a near standstill directly into traffic — lanes are narrow, there are no shoulders in places, and curves are tighter than any modern standard would allow.
Collisions there have a recognizable pattern: merge-point impacts at the stop-sign ramps, and single-vehicle and sideswipe collisions on the curves. Fault disputes about merging are common, and the physical design of the ramp is a genuinely relevant fact rather than an excuse — it bears on what a reasonable driver could do.
The rest of it
Colorado Boulevard through Old Pasadena combines heavy pedestrian traffic with on-street parking and a busy restaurant and bar scene, which produces doorings, reversing collisions and late-night pedestrian strikes. Lake Avenue and Fair Oaks are the fast north-south arterials.
Civil cases for Pasadena, Glendale and Burbank are heard in the North Central District at the Pasadena Courthouse, 300 East Walnut Street.
Questions people ask
I crashed merging onto the 110 and they say it was my fault.
The design of that road is relevant. Several Arroyo Seco Parkway entrances require merging into live traffic from a near standstill with almost no acceleration lane — a configuration that would not be permitted today. What a reasonable driver could do on that specific ramp is a proper question, not an excuse.
